Throughout the course of history, execution has been a means for punishment of criminal behavior in societies all over the world; But as we fast-forward hundreds and hundreds of years, society presents itself as being in a day and age where humans are seeking peaceful ways to handle punishments for criminal behaviors. As a result, these once popular execution methods have been established as well-known debated topics; the controversy rests specifically in the morality and constitutionality of lethal injections for prisoners on death row. The purpose of this paper is to dig deeper in determining the various positions humans have on capital punishment and why people support the positions presented. In order to successfully complete this task, a stakeholder’s map has been created to argue each position that has been presented.
(Paragraph on the background information of lethal injections). Lethal injections cannot simply be understood from a for or against perspective, in order to develop a better insight on the issue all sides within the for or against standpoint must be observed.
Stakeholder’s that view lethal injections as being moral and constitutional argue that execution is the consequence of the poor decisions the inmates on death row have made and that it is the most humane way to go about ending a person’s life. (Present arguments/evidence on why people see it as being humane)
On the opposing side, disputants argue that no form of capital punishment is ethical. (Present arguments/evidence over how it is not quick and painless and the cost of lethal injections)
In conclusion…
Natalie, your essay has a great start to it. The introductory paragraph does a good job of describing the issue at hand. It also clearly tells the reader exactly what the essay is going to be about. The first sentence does a decent job of capturing the reader's attention by stating the historical roots of execution, and connecting it to the present issue at hand. Your structure seems pretty solid as well. You have solid outlines of body paragraphs for each of the sides of the conflict. The topic sentences for each paragraph seem to provide a concise yet accurate description of what the paragraph is going to be about. You also have solid transitions that help ease into new paragraphs. Although some parts of your essay, including the conclusion, have not been written yet, I have no doubt that they will be as good as the rest of the essay. Keep it up throughout the rest of the essay, and it'll be very great!
ReplyDeleteNatalie, I agree with what Mittal said. What you have written so far tells me exactly what your paper is going to be about. I liked the clarity and "to-the-point" nature of your introduction. One thing that you could think about that may also give you more to add is comparing lethal injection to other forms of capital punishment. I personally believe a firing squad to be the most efficient and painless form. A bullet to the head is quick, painless and very cheap for the state to perform. Lethal injection as you stated, is not always quick and painless and actually costs the state a very large sum of money. I understand you are focusing more on morals and ethics than economics, but that gives you another perspective to consider.
