Blackfish Screenshot & Still Shots

The documentary that I chose to watch was Blackfish. Blackfish is a documentary that focuses on killer whales, specifically focusing on the story of Tilikum. The documentary explains what happens when killer whales aren’t able to live free like they should, but instead kept in captivity. This still image from Blackfish includes a shot of a killer whale named Katina after her baby, Kalina, had been taken from her and moved to a different theme park. The angle of this shot shows Katina in the corner of the pool very alone and depressed looking. She lies there still and isn’t moving much. I personally thought that this was the most emotional part of the documentary. The mellow background music mixed with the sound of Kalina crying really brings out in the emotion in the audience. It makes the audience feel sorry for these whales and really shows that these animals shouldn’t be kept in captivity and that killer whales shouldn’t be separated from their kin.
