Blackfish Screenshot

The documentary Blackfish enlightens its viewers of the beauty of the Orca whale. I chose this long snapshot  of a family of Orcas because I thought it documented their real life, while illustrating the freedoms that they lack when condemned to captivity. In society, it becomes easy to confuse an animal's natural activities to those bred in captivity. We have grown up going to see animals live inside enclosures at places, such as, Sea World or the Zoo. However, their lives are much different in their natural state. Almost so, that this scene captures something foreign or fairytale-like. By capturing these creatures in their journey from the side, the shot is able to give us a point of view outside of their world as an innocent by standard. The shot is a clear and natural illustration of an Orcas natural activity in comparison to the lives of those in captivity in the shots previous to this.
