The
image I chose to analyze is from the documentary Blackfish. The shot takes
place at about 4:21 in the movie. It is
a still image of the beginning of a dance routine that a trainer and the killer
whale are performing. This scene goes on
for about 10 seconds with interview shots interrupting every few seconds. The interviews are describing the excitement
and exhilaration that comes just with being in the presence of an Orca. These people describe their experiences as “breath-taking”
and “overwhelming.” They go on to
describe the beauty and magnificence of the creatures. This still really puts what they are talking
about into a visually appealing format as the way these people move and
interact with these whales is very fascinating.
This obviously takes place in the movie when they are still simply
describing the excitement of training these whales rather than the darker
themes that are present throughout the rest of the film.
