The road to making the documentary has certainly been a tough one. I have a decent amount of footage, but I still don't really know what I'm trying to convey in the film. I initially had one interview subject in mind, my dad, but he lives in another state and conducting it would be difficult. I instead chose my best friend, who is currently an engineering student, since I thought it would be interesting to see how their work and curriculum differs from most other majors, given the stereotypes surrounding engineering. The action shot I captured was him studying, which is something frequently done by engineers, which I can attest to. His previous interview was me asking him about some of the experiences he's had and his reason for enrolling in the program. The main issue I'm having is the type of message I'm trying to get across. I don't know if I want to show the typical experience of someone who is studying this field, or look more in depth to an individual's reason for going through the rigorous program. So far, I'm still planning some extra action shots, and redoing an interview to get some better angles and commentary. I'm certainly getting an idea of what I want the film to be, but I still need to focus on getting the footage before I put it all together.
