Production Log Update and Action Shots

Over the weekend, I took two action shots of my subject, my older sister. They were both about 15 seconds long. I thought it would be cool to incorporate action shots of her studying for nursing school and playing with her cat because it depicts her current life now. This is because in the documentary we talk about her past life and experiences living in China with our family so it is kind of like a comparison that shows where she is now. The shots were taken before lunch time, around 12 p.m., on Sunday afternoon. My I-Phone 5 camera was used.

In regard to my production log update, everything for the most part is going well. It has been an interesting process since this is my first time filming and putting a documentary, or any film for that matter, together by myself. I have learned alot of things about the industry and how these videos work. To film still shots and scenes where I wanted the camera to be still, I placed my phone on its side to diverge from any shaking or trembling. This seemed to be quite successful. In contrast, one of the few difficulties I have had during this process included when I filmed my action shots above. Since I don't have a professional camera, I had to film the shots with my phone in my hand. This proved to be quite hard because it was a hassle trying to keep my hand still when trying to move around and film. I wanted to do something different and move around the room when filming these shots, in comparison to just placing it on a table like all my previous shots. It would add a different element to my film. Other than that and several other miniscule things such as adjusting the lighting, everything seems to be going great. I am excited to learn how to put the documentary together and to see the finished product.

  2. These are great, Sheyda! I think you have great instincts when it comes to framing a shot and then tightening it when the time seems right. Side note: I want to snuggle that cat. Anyone else have difficulty moving around while holding the camera?
